The University of Dayton English Language Institute is proud to offer its Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate to those who wish to start or continue a rewarding career. The innovative program is designed specifically for teachers in Latin America and can give you the training you need in the foundations of teaching, language awareness, the principles of language teaching and learning, classroom practice and evaluation.

MODULES

Programs begin twice a year, in January and in August, and conclude after six months. The 160-hour program combines a blended observation format with a series of in-person and online course modules. It builds on teachers’ education and classroom experience through reflective practice to develop teaching excellence.

Module 1: Foundations of Teaching (Intensive, in-person workshop)
Module 2: English Language Awareness (Online)
Module 3: Principles of Language Learning & Teaching (Online)
Module 4: The EFL Classroom (Online)
Module 5: Evaluation & Assessment (Online and in-person)

PRACTICUM

Spans over the course of all five modules
Eight hours of practice teaching
Four hours of observation of a master teacher

REQUIREMENTS:

• Mexican citizenship and returnee, deportee or refugee status
• Strong English communication skills (CEFR B2 minimum)
• Access to a computer, Internet, webcam or other recording device
• Approximately 15 hours a week over 6 months.
